On a personal level, I value living with compassion and integrity. In a professional environment, I value teamwork and having the ability to adapt to changing situations.
I define myself through my values and what I would like to achieve. I believe that to live with integrity, you have compassion for other people and you have the desire to help those around you. I will go very much out of my way if it means I am able to truly help another or makes things easier for them; therefore, my personal values of compassion and integrity are very interrelated to my professional values of teamwork and adaptability.
My nursing theory and my practice are strongly motivated by my personal and professional values. I believe compassion should be a driving force for all nurses. While on the unit as a nursing attendant, I know I can give compassionate care to the residents because I know this is where I want to be. I try very hard to make sure my residents are happy and comfortable and feel well taken care of. As a member of the team, I offer (and ask for) help many times in the day. Without the work of our team, the unit would take on a very different environment. With so many residents coming and going, changing routines, and rotating staff on a fast-paced unit, it makes all the difference to have a team with you willing to work together within the changes and still have every resident feel respected and valued as an individual.
